List of Banned Games on Twitch You Must Not Stream in 2022

You can’t play all kinds of games on Twitch. You need to know which game you must not play. Your Twitch account will be terminated if you play the forbidden game during your stream on Twitch.

Banned Twitch Game

Not all games are playable on Twitch. Some kinds of games violate Twitch Community guidelines, and streaming those games can lead you suspension on your account. You don’t want the result of your hard work on your Twitch channel to disappear because of an accident, right?

What kind of games that forbidden to stream on Twitch?

According to Twitch guidelines: There are two kinds of games that streamers must not play on Twitch: Game with ESRB rating of Adults Only and game that violates Twitch Community guidelines. But Twitch also forbid game that doesn’t receive Adults only rating, so what important is the game must not break the Twitch Community guidelines

Type of game that broke Twitch Community guidelines:

1. Game with Hateful Conduct, Threat,  Hate speech and Harassment

Twitch doesn’t want you to publish hate speech and harassment on their platform. So, research the game before streaming it. Don’t play a game that has hate speech, racism, harassment element on it. This kind of game usually also prohibited on Steam Store

There is an exception, though. You can still play a game that lets you play as the bad guy. Playing controversial game missions like “No Russian” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or playing as a Nazi soldier on Call of Duty and Battlefield game won’t get you banned on Twitch

2. Game that shows Nudity, Pornography, and Other Sexual Content

Twitch wants to promote their platform as family-friendly media, so any kind of nudity and pornography is forbidden there. This includes a game that has nudity and pornography content, which usually land on Adult Only ESRB rating.

A mature ESRB rating game which is a level below Adult Only like Grand Theft Auto: V and Cyberpunk 2077 is still allowed on Twitch. But Twitch still allow you to play Cyberpunk 2077, a game that shows many nudity and even let the player choose their genital size

There is a possibility that Twitch allows Cyberpunk 2077 because they have Streamer Mode in the gaming setting. Turning on Streamer mode can remove the copyrighted music and censor the nudity, which makes it allowed on Twitch and YouTube despite no nudity guidelines

There is also a game that is still forbidden to play on Twitch without an Adults-only Rating. Usually, the game has heavy perceived nudity or promotes sexual crime. Here is the list of the games

3. Game with Extreme Violence, Gore, and Other Obscene Conduct

I think you can ignore this rule. Twitch never banned streamers that play a game with heavy gore content. You can still play and stream a game that has an extreme amount of gore like Doom without getting your account banned

Maybe you can get banned if you play a video of real-life gore and violence during your stream. But video games? I know only the boomer like to sat that video game is full of violence, but we can’t separate video games from blood. So, as long other streamers can play the same game, just play without any worry

4. Game that promotes Spam, Scams, and Other Malicious Conduct

Games that promote spam and scam is rare. Steam doesn’t like spammer and scammer, so games that pass Steam guidelines are usually games that safe to play and stream on Twitch. This rules also means you must never promote spam and scam on your stream.

So, if you get an advertising offer during your stream, you need to double-check to make sure you are not scamming your audience.

A recent example of a streamer is fooled to promote a scam product is Valkyrae. Valkyrae promotes a skincare product that doesn’t have any scientic facts and promotes it for gamers. Needless to say, she faces backslash and loses some of her followers on YouTube

5. Game that violates Intellectual Property Rights

Playing pirated game are forbidden on Twitch because it violates the game creator’s Intellectual Property Rights. This also includes using cheating and hack tools on your game, especially if the game is an online game

There is an exception. You can still play a modded game as long you already paid for the vanilla version of the game. Some streamers can still stream their modded pokemon gameplay on Twitch.

But Nintendo is one of the companies that love to send a DMCA notice if you play their modded pokemon game, so you need to be careful when you stream a modded game

What about an emulated game?

Can you stream an emulated game on Twitch?

Yes, as long you emulate using the legal license of the game. Even then, there is a risk of a ban if the game company sends a DMCA notice since emulating may break their Term of Use of their game. Nintendo notoriously despised the emulator community. So buy your legal license, but if you can stream without using an emulator, then don’t use the emulator

6. Game with Real-money Gambling, Betting, Casinos

You can still stream casino games; it’s actually allowed on Twitch. But there is a time limit of a maximum of 30 minutes of gambling content during your stream. After surpassing the 30 minutes time period, you need to stop streaming gambling content and play other games before switching back to gambling

While you can stream the game, Twitch doesn’t allow any links to sites where people can directly make bets and gamble using real money. This also applies to giveaways of cash or prizes that require any kind of entry fee paid with real currency. Don’t give giveaways to your viewers, unless it’s free and legal

Beware that some states and countries forbid the use of online casinos and gambling, so despite not breaking the Twitch guideline, you are still breaking the local law by streaming casino and gambling games.

I don’t recommend playing a gambling game, because promoting gambling activity to young audiences can destroy someone else life

What if I Play The game that is Prohibited on Twitch?

Playing the game means you violate the Twitch policy. Twitch can terminate your streaming account without notice. Repeated violation of playing a game that is forbidden to stream on Twitch can lead you to a permanent ban of your account. So don’t play the game and search for other games with no nudity and hate speech

What if I accidentally stream the game that prohibited on Twitch?

If you accidentally streamed the game that is forbidden to stream on Twitch and you are still in the middle of streaming, just pause your stream, and do not attempt to resolve the problem on your own. Pause your stream and contact the support team to discuss your issue Twitch can ban you, so the safest solution is to terminate the stream and delete the stored video.

The problem is the video is usually still stored on Twitch servers even after being deleted on your Twitch channel. Your viewers can still access the video as long they have the ID, so you can still get banned on Twitch. Always contact the support team to help you, even with the risk of getting banned.
